Brentwood basketball head coach Troy Bond

Brentwood basketball head coach Troy Bond is retiring.

After one last run to the TSSAA state tournament, legendary Brentwood boys basketball coach Troy Bond announced he is retiring on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the school announced that Bond's longtime assistant Troy Crane will be taking over as head coach.

"Serving alongside Troy Bond for 21 years, coach Crane was an integral part of so many successful teams," BHS administration said in a statement.

"It's evident that relationships are important to Troy and that he cares about the student-athlete on and off the court, and there are few coaches that work harder at serving their players to give them a great experience while at Brentwood High School."

Brentwood is coming off a successful season that saw the Bruins clinch the program's sixth state tournament bid and star senior Daniel Cochran become the program's all-time leading scorer. The run capped a three-year period for Bond as Brentwood's head coach. The Bruins went 50-37 over the three seasons.

During his 23-year career as a head coach, which also included 14 seasons at Wilson Central and six seasons at Oakland, Bond amassed a record of 457-241. He led the Wildcats to four state tournament bids and clinched two state bids for the Patriots.

Bond, who played two seasons at Tennessee State, has twice been named the BCAT Coach of the Year.

Crane has been as assistant for Bond for the past 20 years, beginning with his stint at Wilson Central.Â
