Sophia Silvestri, daughter of Victor and Tara Silvestri, is a junior at Brentwood Academy and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Girls Tennis Team. This season, Silvestri said her biggest highlight was the team’s match in Bowling Green where she said, “it was so fun getting to know my team better and it was a really challenging match to play.”
Silvestri said her introduction to tennis was natural, as her family had always played for fun. In 7th grade, she decided to try out for the team.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “My team and family inspire me when I play because they are so supportive and I always want to play my best for them.” She added, “Each day I want to find a way to get better and improve my skills for the next match.”
One of her biggest role models is professional surfer Bethany Hamilton. Hamilton sustained a huge injury that resulted in losing her arm after being attacked by a shark while surfing.
Silvestri said of her, “She doesn’t let fear or her shark attack stop her from achieving her goals. She is also very strong in her faith and inspires me to never give up.”
She describes herself as a hard worker, positive, motivated and determined. When she’s not on the court, she enjoys working out, baking, swimming, traveling, surfing and taking Krav Maga classes.
With one more year of school left. Silvestri is still narrowing in on her college of choice. She said she is looking at Belmont, Samford, Palm Beach Atlantic, Tampa and Pepperdine universities. She hopes to go into the health and wellness field.
