Taylor Cathey, daughter of Scott and Michele Cathey, is a junior at Brentwood Academy and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Varsity Softball Team and plays the positions of pitcher and second base. This season, she pitched a no-hitter against John Paul II. She currently has a batting average of .350 and an on base percentage of .519.
Cathey said she grew up around baseball and softball, so she naturally gravitated towards wanting to play. She said once she was old enough, she signed up to play T-ball and thinks took off from there.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “I really just want to do my best for the team… I never want to let them or my coaches down so while training, I always think of that.”
Although she said she has numerous supporters, Cathey said her father is her biggest inspiration and role model. “He’s been coaching me since I was little and always puts what’s best for me before what’s best for my play.”
She describes herself as talkative, determined, headstrong, and kind hearted. When she’s not on the field, she enjoys drawing and spending time with friends and family.
With a year of high school ahead, she is currently undecided as to where she will attend college. However, she said she would like to study clinical psychology and eventually become a therapist.
