ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Brentwood Academy

Marcus Fitzgerald Jr.

Marcus Fitzgerald Jr., son of Marcus Fitzgerald Sr. and Shaketa Washington, is this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.

He is a junior at Brentwood Academy and a member of the Varsity Basketball Team. He plays the position of point guard. This season, he scored 32 points in a game against The First Academy.

Fitzgerald said that his dad was the one to get him started in the sport, signing him up to play at a young age.

When asked what inspires him to continue training and competing he said, “To be the best… to honor God and my family by playing and working as hard as I can.”

Two of his biggest role models are his father and grandfather. “They have pushed me to my goals and believed in me since day one,” he said. “They also have helped others through mentoring and coaching.”

He describes himself as funny, chill, cool, personable and nice. Outside of basketball, he enjoys listening to music, laughing and dancing.

After graduating from BA next year, he plans to go to a Division I college to continue his basketball career. He would eventually like to become a professional basketball player and create the biggest Amateur Athletic Union basketball tournament yet.
