Grace Gamboa, daughter of Mark and Vickie Gamboa, is a junior at Brentwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Track & Field Team and competes in pole vaulting and jumping. In 2018, she came in 4th at State in pole vaulting. She has a personal record of 11’2 in pole vaulting and a 366.5” for the triple jump.
Gamboa said she started running track in middle school and immediately fell in love with the competitiveness of the sport.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “Most of my events challenge me to jump higher and farther, which inspires me to train harder.”
BHS Track & Field Coach Steve Brock said of Gamboa, “Being injured most of her sophomore year, Grace has emerged as a leader and force this season for the Bruins track and field team. This season, “GiGi” has competed in the long jump, triple jump, pole vault, 100 hurdles and in relays. We have thoroughly enjoyed her competitive spirit, infectious personality, and tireless effort this season. She is a pleasure to have on Team Brentwood.”
She said one of her biggest role models and inspirations is her sister, Tori. “She encourages me to better myself,” Gamboa said.
She describes herself as hard working, outgoing and humble. Outside of track, she enjoys attending her church and participating in BHS’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
After graduating from BHS next year, she plans to further her track career in college.
