Ross Wilkerson, son of Kelly and Dana Wilkerson, is a senior at Brentwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
He is a member of the Varsity Baseball Team and plays the position of pitcher. This season, he had a 1.17 earned run average, .168 batting average against, 51 swinging strikeouts, 12 innings pitched during the District Tournament and 1.05 walks plus hits per inning pitched.
Wilkerson started practicing baseball when he was three years old. He said he remembers teaching himself how to throw and catch.
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said, “My work ethic and my teammates and coaches push me to get better every day.”
BHS Baseball Coach Bill Moore said of Wilkerson, “[He] made First Team All-District and was a key to us finishing District Runner-Up this spring. [It] was fun watching him progress and make the kind of strides he made from last year to this year.”
One of his biggest role models and inspirations is his father. “He showed me this great game and also because he is the most determined person I know.”
He describes himself as persistent, passionate, energetic and dedicated. Outside of baseball, he enjoys fishing, hunting, snowboarding and skiing.
After graduating from BHS, Wilkerson plans to attend The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
