Skylar Coffey, son of Otis and Frederica Coffey, is a junior at Brentwood High School and a member of the Wrestling Team.
He went undefeated this season.
Coffey said that all of his brothers wrestled, so he thought to himself, “I might as well carry on the legacy.”
When asked what inspires him to train and compete he said, “I just want to be the best at what I do. That’s why I train hard. I want to be remembered as the guy who gave it his all and looked good doing it.”
His biggest role model is Muhammad Ali. “One of my favorite quotes of his is, ‘float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,” he said. He then added, “On the mat, I float like a butterfly and you better believe I’ll sting you like a bee.”
BHS Wrestling Coach Damon Smith said of Coffey, “Currently undefeated on the season and has pinned every opponent this year. Skylar is exciting and explosive on the wrestling mat, and a humble and gentle man off the mat. He is a class act.”
When he’s not on the mat, he enjoys listening to music, running track, and “getting swole.”
After graduating from BHS, Coffey plans to go to college to pursue a career as a dentist.
