Jaz Harmon, daughter of Katy and Damien Harmon, is a junior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Varsity Girls Basketball Team and plays the position of guard. In a game against Centennial this season, Harmon scored 30 points.
Harmon’s mother, Katy, played basketball in college and was very successful in the sport. Her passion for the game was one of the driving forces behind Harmon joining a team.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “Being able to get the opportunities that my family never got to have inspires me to always get better.”
RHS Basketball Coach Mariska Harris said of Harmon, “Jaz has been playing at a high level of basketball for our team the past couple weeks through her leadership, offensive scoring and defensive presence.”
She said that her parents are her biggest role models. “They are the most hardworking people I know and they gave and continue to give everything in order to give my siblings and I what they never had.”
Harmon describes herself as determined, outgoing and loyal. Outside of basketball, she enjoys playing piano and spending time with her family.
As far as the future, she is committed to The University of Alabama Birmingham where she will play basketball and pursue a major in Psychology.
