Kiara Carter, daughter of Renee and Anthony Carter, is a junior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Varsity Track & Field Team and competes in the 400, 800, 4×400 and 4×800 meter races. This season, she achieved a new personal record in the 400 and 800 at the Scott Hartman Invitational.
Carter said she’s been running for as long as she can remember. “Since I learned how to walk I could run, so this sport was natural to me,” she said.
RHS Track & Field Coach Peter Mueller said of Carter:
Last fall, Kiara ran cross country for the first time, giving herself a much bigger aerobic base than she’s ever had before. You can see the difference already as she is running with tremendous confidence so far this outdoor season. Last Tuesday, she raced the 800 meter at the Scott Hartman invitational. She calmly ran behind the leaders for the first 500 meters before passing them all and cruising into the finish for the win. Her time of 2:24.59 is her new PR and the 16th fastest time in Tennessee across all classifications.
When asked what inspires her to continue training and competing she said, “The potential I have to compete at a higher level and some accolades such as competing at the Junior Olympics.”
Her biggest role models are her parents, Renee and Anthony. She said she is grateful for their dedication to paving the way for her to have a promising future.
Carter describes herself as goal-oriented, orderly and determined. When she’s not on the track, she enjoys walking in Smith Park and watching the Food Network.
After graduating next year, she plans to commit to Samford University and be accepted into their Track & Field program. She hopes to obtain her doctorate in physical therapy.
