Zane Denton, son of Traci Denton, is a senior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week. He is a member of the Varsity Baseball Team and plays the positions of third base and shortstop. So far this season, he has hit eight home runs.
Denton has been playing baseball since he was three years old and said, “I was born into a baseball family.”
When asked what inspires him to continue training and competing he said, “I want to play baseball for as long as I can. The thought of having to stop makes me work harder.”
One of his biggest role models is his older brother, who is in the minor leagues. Denton said he plans to follow that path.
Coach Borne, RHS’s Head Baseball Coach said of him, “Zane is having a great year at the plate as well as on the mound. He is leading the team in almost every statistical category and is also the closer for the pitching staff. Zane has a tremendous work ethic and is a great leader on and off the field for our program.”
He describes himself as hard working and dedicated. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and playing video games.
This fall, he plans to attend The University of Alabama where he will continue both his athletic and academic careers.
