Will Kaylor, son of Chris and Trina Kaylor, is a junior at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
He is a member of the Varsity Track & Field Team and competes in sprinting. This season, he has set new personal records including 11.04 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 22.60 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
Kaylor started running track unofficially as a way to help him gain speed in football. He said he didn’t expect to, but ended up “really enjoying it.” Additionally, some of his football teammates were on the Track & Field Team and convinced him to join this year.
When asked what inspires him to continue training and competing he said, “I strive to be the best athlete I can be and help out the teams that I am a part of as much as I can.”
Track & Field Coach Pete Mueller said of Kaylor:
Will has made a huge impact in his first season running track at Ravenwood. He has been the anchor leg on the 4×100-meter relay team, which won at March Madness, Scott Hartman Relays, Willco Championships, and The Vol Classic. Last week at the Section 3 South Sub Sectional, he qualified for the sectional finals in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and anchored the 4×200-meter relay team to a top three finish… In addition to being a great finisher on the track, Will brings a great attitude to the track every day and has helped elevate his teammates’ performance all season long.
Kaylor said his biggest role model is his father, Chris.
“He has always been the one to push me to be the best that I can be and is always there to support me and help out at almost every sporting event I participate in,” he said.
After graduating from RHS, he plans to go to college where he will begin a path to eventually enroll in medical school and work in healthcare. He also plans to continue his track career in college.
