Ben Severance, son of Mike and Robin Severance, is a sophomore at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
He is a member of the Baseball Team and plays infield positions for the team. This season, Severance hit a walk-off double in the District Tournament during a game that determined whether the team would move forward, or go home.
He credits his start in the sport to his father, who he said “played his whole life.”
When asked what inspires him to continue training and competing he said, “My little brother inspires me because I want to show him what it is like to work hard and leave everything on the field.”
His biggest role model is professional baseball player Justin Pedroia. “I watched him growing up as a kid and admired his hard work and the way he played the game.”
RHS Baseball Coach Danny Borne said of Severance, “Ben had a great season at the plate for the Raptors and is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win.”
When he’s not on the field, he enjoys hunting and fishing.
After graduating from RHS, he hopes to continue his baseball career in college.
