Camilla Wilbanks, daughter of Emily Shaw, is a sophomore at Ravenwood High School and this week’s Kerr & Co. Realty Athlete of the Week.
She is a member of the Girls Softball Team. She plays the position of third base. This season in a game against Franklin High, her team was down by two points and Wilbanks was injured. She said the coach decided to put her in to hit and she was able to bring two runners in.
Wilbanks said her father is the one who encouraged her to pick up a bat when she was only six years old. Since then, she said, she has fallen in love with the sport.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “Seeing my competition makes me want to become better and thrive to do my best… and to win.”
RHS Softball Coach Allison Tyree Brown said of Wilbanks, “She has been a huge asset to our team this season both defensively and offensively. She works very hard putting in extra time outside of practices. She is driven, selfless and a great teammate. I am so proud of her and the successful season she has had.”
Her biggest role model is her mother, Emily. “She’s hard working and devoted to me and my sister,” she said. “She pushes me to do my best no matter what.”
Wilbanks describes herself as determined and confident. When she’s not training or playing in a game, she enjoys going to the field with her friends and bike riding with her mom.
After graduating from RHS, she plans to go to college and continue pursuing biking or softball.
