Megan Jo Zaves
Megan Jo Zaves, daughter of Jenny and Ken Zaves, is a senior at Ravenwood High School and a member of the Varsity Cheerleading Team.
She cheers for the Varsity Football Team and is also on a competition cheer team.
This season, the team was named the Grand Champs and came in first place at the Southern Cheer Class. They also placed first at Regionals.
Zaves started cheering with the Brentwood Blaze when she was in second grade. She started cheering for school in sixth grade and said she hasn’t stopped cheering sideline or competition ever since.
When asked what inspires her to train and compete she said, “I love getting to practice and seeing all of my teammates. These girls have been by my side and have become my best friends. I wouldn’t want to compete with anybody else!”
She said that one of the most important role models in her life is her sister Becca. She said she looks up to her “because of her love for others and undeniable courage.” She added, “She is my best friend as well as my big sister and I am so thankful for her.”
Coach Stephanie Dykes said of Zaves, “Megan Zaves is one of the most spirited cheerleaders on our squad! She always has a positive attitude, goes above and beyond to support all Raptor sports, and is a great leader and role model for the younger members of the squad. She is well deserving of Athlete of the Week.”
When she’s not on the sidelines cheering, Zaves enjoys singing and playing the guitar as well as performing in musicals at school. She is also a member of RHS Student Council.
After graduating from RHS this year, she is planning to go to college to pursue a degree in Business Marketing.
