Boys drop close game

Centennial High School came out strong against Mt Juliet in the non-conference basketball matchup Tuesday night, leading the game by 10 points until the last minutes of the first half.

But the Golden Bears can roar with the best of them as they began to scratch down Centennial’s lead, and with 1:24 to go in the half, Charles Clark hit the ‘3’ shot to help spark a comeback. Centennial held on to the lead at half time, with a successful free throw as Mt Juliet went into halftime down 26-29.

But Mt. Juliet is playing well this season this season and had just defeated Stewarts Creek and Ravenwood and would soon show their ability to not only hit the 3 but play fast break ball and get the rebounds they needed in the second half of the game.

Both teams played aggressive as they took their share of fouls with neither one backing down, as the second half became a heated battle. Mt. Juliet soon tied the game and then took the lead for the first time that night in the fourth.

Both teams worked hard defensively, but Mt. Juliet was able to capitalize on their defense and set-ups while Centennial missed. With the ‘spark’ from J.C. Crawford, who scored 12 points for the game, the Bears started to capture the lead. They’d hold on to it and walk away with a 58-52 win.

Girls take tough loss

The Lady Bears took off running in the first quarter with 12 unanswered points and never looked back Tuesday night against Centennial with a 59-27 win.

The visitor’s Tondriannha Davis, Reghan Grimes, Emma Palmer and Neveah Major contributed to the offensive dominance.

In the second quarter, Davis shot two 3’s to keep them in the lead. Centennial made attempts to answer back but were no match for the defensive effort by Mt Juliet and their ability to make fast plays to the rim.

Davis and Majors continued to hustle, driving to the basket and setting up plays as tall. Palmer was able to complete most of their set-ups.

By the end of the half, the Lady Bears led 24-11. They’d hold that lead until the end.

Battle Ground Academy boys can’t get past Goodpasture

The BGA boys team had two scorers in double-digits with Charlie Jewell and Petzelt both scoring 11 Tuesday, but that wasn’t quite enough to get the team past Goodpasture, 58-43.

Price Crabtree pitched in with 9.

Grace Christian Academy struggles at Eagleville

Neither GCA team could get much going for wins in a road trip to Eagleville.

The girls team lost a close one 56-49 to the host team, with Anna Smith leading the team with 16 points. Audrey Sanders had 11.

The boy dropped their game 92-66, with Mason McKnatt having 21 on the night (five buckets from the perimeter). Will Beasley had 10.
