Tonight Brentwood Academy will host auditions for their fall play, ‘You Can’t Take It With You.’
The auditions will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the school, with all upper schools students being encouraged to audition for the comedic play.
‘You Can’t Take It With You’ is a comedic play in three acts by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The original production of the play premiered on Broadway in 1936 and played for 838 performances.
The story takes place entirely in the large house of a slightly batty New York City family. It follows the Vanderhofs and Sycamores as the family marches to the beat of their own drums with pride and joy. Their hobbies include collecting snakes, building fireworks in the basement, writing a myriad of plays that never get published and taking ballet lessons.
‘You Can’t Take It With You’ is a madcap, idealistic comedy that reinforces the idea that you can only live life to the fullest by doing what makes you truly happy.
Rehearsals will take place three nights a week from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There are 18 roles available for males and females. Students can also serve on technical and stage crews for each show, and upper school students may enroll in set design or theatre arts classes which construct the sets and props for each production.
Brentwood Academy is located at 219 Granny White Pike.
