Brentwood Academy basketball fans won’t have to look far to find rising senior Marcus Fitzgerald Jr. after he’s graduated.
The point guard announced Tuesday his intent to stay in middle Tennessee and attend Tennessee State University for his collegiate basketball career.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Fitzgerald said in his “Hometown Hero” announcement video on Twitter. “First off, I would like to thank God because none of this would be possible without Him. … I would like to thank my family, my friends and my coaches, who motivated and believed in me over the years.
“Oh yeah, and the doubters also, y’all led me to become a better player and a better person, so I thank you, too.”
He will be joining head coach Brian “Penny” Collins and the TSU Tigers, who are coming off a 9-21 season (including a 6-12 conference record).
The Brentwood Academy Eagles were state runners-up for D-II AA this year, hoisting Fitzgerald and elite basketball prospect Randy Brady as its leaders.
24/7 Sports mentioned that Fitzgerald also had an offer from East Tennessee State on the table and interest from Vanderbilt.
The Eagles standout will return to the BA court this fall to complete his senior season before heading toward Nashville in the fall of 2020.
