The Brentwood boys tennis team gets to leave Murfreesboro with heads high and hardware in hand.
The team defeated Murfreesboro Central 4-1 Wednesday at the Adams Tennis Complex to take home the 2019 Division-I Large Class state title.
Hunter Johnson (6-1, 7-6), Ethan Ly (6-3, 6-4), Matthew-William Smith (6-4, 6-1) and James Smith (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) each won their respective sets against Murfreesboro Central, while Donovan Janicek lost a battle with Central’s Fangyu Zou (6-3, 6-1).
The team saw their crosstown rival Ravenwood win state last year and decided to even the score.
After the match, all the Bruins gathered at center court to participate in an “I believe that we just won!” celebration.
The Brentwood girls team is competing for a fourth-straight title at the time of publication.
