The Battle of the Woods rivalry hit the softball diamond Tuesday night, as Brentwood won an intense 7-2 game at Ravenwood.
Ravenwood scored in the first inning to make it 1-0. The Bruins evened the scored a run in the second inning to tie it at 1-1.
Then it got exciting. With Indy Cockrill at third base and Ashley Casillas at second, Emily Cockrill hit a single to drive in Indy to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead. Then Elisabeth Laviolette hit an RBI double, driving in another run making it 3-1 after 3 innings.
In the fourth inning, Indy Cockrill was driven in by a pop out RBI by Ella Sauba, increasing the lead to 4-1. In the 5th inning Laviolette lead off for Brentwood and hit a homerun to put the Bruins further up 5-1.
The Lady Raptors’ started their half of the inning with a triple, putting them immediately in scoring position. Then Sydney Hughes was walked and then stole second base to put the Raptors in prime scoring position.
Ravenwood then popped out but recorded the RBI as Webb came home to score, making it 5-2 Brentwood. But then Emily Cockrill, the Brentwood pitcher, struck out and forced a ground out on the next two batters, getting the Bruins out of the inning.
In the seventh, Brentwood increased their lead as Teagan Oakes scored on an error and Kaleigh Bottoms scored from an RBI single off her teammate Jenna Galloway.
After the game Brentwoods Coach Erica Powell stated, “I feel pretty good. Ravenwood is a great team, and Coach Brown of Ravenwood is a great coach. Anytime we get a win against Ravenwood, it’s a good day.”
Ravenwood’s Head Coach Allison Brown stated, ” I think Brentwood did a good job. The came out with a lot of energy.
“They put pressure on our defense. We showed how young we are. We folded under the pressure, and didn’t react how I wanted us to react. So this point moving forward I hope we learn from this and just get better for the next time.”
Brentwood next plays at Franklin Thursday, while Ravenwood hosts Indy that same day.
