The CPA boys basketball team put on a basketball clinic Friday night as they beat Goodpasture 59-46 in the Division II a Middle Region semifinals out at Davidson Academy.
Goodpasture was the higher seed, but watching the game you would never have known as The Lions came out hitting on all cylinders.
It was 22-9 after the 1st period with some smoking hot shooting. It was 35-25 Lions at the half. The Lions increased their lead to 48-33 after 3 quarters.
In the 4th GPA fought hard and scored 7 straight to make the game interesting at 48-40 with 4:52 to go. But the Lions were ready tonight. Poised emotionally, and with guns blazing they closed out the game by turning up the scoring to close out the game with a 59-46 victory.
How did the Lions manage to control the pace against such a quality opponent?
“We talk about throwing the first punch in big games,” CPA head coach Drew Maddux said. “A lot of times it’s natural for athletes to come out and be timid and try not to make a mistake. We try to empower our guys to be free and play with the gifts God gave them. And it lead to our play and an incredible win tonight.”
The Lions made an impressive 13 3=point shots against the Cougars.
The Lions were lead in scoring by Bryce McCormick (15), McNeill Stout (13), Braeden Moore 12 who also made 4 huge 3 pointers, and Dean Cooper 12.
CPA will play Saturday in the Division II a Middle Region finals at 8:30 p.m. at Davidson Academy.
