The Battle of the Woods Rivalry has returned to the soccer field.
After a hard fought battle by both teams, backed by two emotionally charged fan bases, it was the Brentwood Bruins who edged out a hard earned road victory over the Raptors.
In the end it was Blake Chalfant scoring at 12:51 to give the go-ahead, and eventual winning goal.
Brentwood head coach Mike Purcell shared his thoughts on the Bruins victory.
“I felt we played sloppy,” he said. “There were way too many opportunities we didn’t capitalize on. And then we were lucky that we did score there. on there. We had a good hustle play. Then we were fortunate we were able to contain them on defense.
“It was a game you could tell these guys hadn’t played in 10 days. Our touch was off. But it was a competitive game. You can tell there was a lot of spirit I would say. I was glad none of our guys got hurt. We’re able to move on, and Ravenwood has a good team.”
As for the Ravenwood Raptors, head coach Adam Harris shared how he felt the game went.
“It was a great game,” he said. “Really physical. Both teams worked really hard for the whole game. We struggled in the first 10 minutes as they put a lot of pressure on us, which is good. After that I thought we got into the game, got into our rhythm. Played well and had chances.
“At this level, we have to finish your chances. I’m proud of my team. We only had four practices outside, and I start five sophomores, so I’m really proud of them. I thought they played great, and looking forward to the season.”
