Election administrator says voting precinct at Prarie Life Fitness will close April 29

The Williamson County Election Commission told City Commission candidates Tuesday that Precinct 4-1 at Prarie Life Fitness Center will close effective April 29.

The Nebraska-based fitness company is closing its doors at the Cool Springs location April 29, and Election Administrator Chad Gray says the commission will not have access to the facility following that time.

“I was going to try to pursue maybe us just using the facility after they had vacated, but I didn’t think I’d be able to get very far quickly on that, so we’re having to go a different route,” Gray said. “I guess timing is everything. If it had been next week, we would have been in a pickle.”

The location serves the Cool Springs East area, as well as portions of south Brentwood near Moores Lane and Wilson Pike. According to Gray, the polling location includes about 800 voters in the City of Brentwood.

Gray told Home Page in a Wednesday email that no more than 100 voters have voted at the Prarie Life Fitness Center in a past City of Brentwood election.

Despite its low voter use, Gray said the location has been used for more than 10 years, and called the location’s impending closing an “abrupt turn of events.”

“Our office was not notified in any manner,” Gray stated in the Tuesday email to candidates. “We are crunched for time on this issue.”

The Election Commission will convene Monday, April 29 at 4 p.m. at the Williamson County Administrative Complex in Franklin to decide on an alternative location for the precinct. Gray said it will likely be relocated to another polling station or accessible location nearby.

Once the Commission decides on the alternate location for the precinct, Gray said all registered voters will be promptly notified by mail.
