Independence’s baseball season might be over, but the accolades for junior Robert Hassell keep rolling in.
Gatorade has named the Vandy commit the 2019 Tennessee Baseball Player of the Year.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program describes itself as one “proud to recognize the nation’s most elite high school athletes for not only athletic excellence, but high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.”
Hassell hit a fifteenth homer in his closing games Wednesday. He helped will Indy to a district title and was named 11-AAA’s MVP. He was also a finalist for Class AAA’s 2019 Mr. Baseball honor.
He will return to the mound for Independence next spring and head to Vanderbilt in the fall of 2020 to begin his collegiate career.
