Library Foundation dissolving following $4.2 million gift from Holt family

The Brentwood Library Foundation will dissolve after donations slowed following a large donation to the library.

The Library Foundation raised money for the John P. Holt Brentwood Library. The nonprofit organization was formed in 2002.

The foundation raised money for the outdoor reading terrace, new furniture and renovations to the meeting rooms.

Last year, the city of Brentwood accepted a $4.2 million donation to the library from the Holt family. The library will use about 25 percent of that donation for short term projects and the rest of the donation will be an endowment that generates ongoing funds for the library.

In an email, Tom Henry the president of the Brentwood Library Foundation said that donation to the foundation slowed down following the Holt family’s gift.

“After long deliberation, the Foundation Board decided to dissolve with the understanding that the Friends of the Brentwood Library would take the lead in fundraising efforts going forward,” he wrote in an email.

The foundation will be fully dissolved by the end of the year.
