Marching bands are a key part of Friday night high school football games. Not only do they keep the energy of the crowd up, but they also provide entertainment during halftime.

The Marching Band season begins towards the end of the summer with band camp and the band typically competes until spring.   Here is a preview of Brentwood’s and Ravenwood’s 2012-2013 Marching Band Season.

Brentwood:

The Bruins had their Band Camp the week of July 30. This year the 130 member band and color guard have new uniforms that have been

in the works for two years.

The new uniforms will incorporate all of Brentwood’s colors and will have the capability to change a component of the uniform from gold sparkles to silver.

Drum majors Michaela Box and Zach Sexton will lead the band in 5 competitions including one at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

Their program this year is titled Redemption and will have familiar tunes by Samuel Barber and Frank Shelly.

“This is going to be one of those shows that people talk about,” says director Randy Box

Ravenwood:

The Ravenwood Marching Band began their season with band camp the week of July 23. The title of this year’s program is “The Beat Goes On”.

“Our show this year is about relationships in life. How a relationship will start and end, but we must keep moving on,” explains director Mark Kinzer.

The drum majors are Zach Wilson, Jennifer Crook, and Ellie Henry. The leaders of the color guard are Trina Moulton, Molly Tyler, Elizabeth Luke, and Grace Ellen Waggener.

The Raptors will compete in Bands of America Nationals in Indianapolis and in 5 other competitions.

“I am looking forward to the growth and experiences that these students will have over the upcoming season,” says Kinzer.
