Music City Film Critics Association crowns ‘Roma’ as best of ’18

The Music City Film Critics Association has unveiled its list of winners for its first-ever set of film nominations, honoring 2018 at the cinema.

Roma, writer/director Alfonso Cuarón’s black-and-white Netflix epic based on memories of his childhood and his beloved caretaker, won the top prize for Best Film from the organization.

Filmmaker Lynne Ramsey was honored for her work on You Were Never Really Here with a Best Director award.

Christian Bale took home Best Actor for his lauded portrayal of former Vice President Dick Cheney in Vice, Olivia Colman was recognized with a Best Actress honor for her beloved performance in The Favourite.

Michael B. Jordan won Best Supporting Actor for his villainous turn in Black Panther and Regina King earned a Best Supporting Actress win for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.

MCFCA recognized the film Blaze, based on the life of noted folk musician Blaze Foley, with its Jim Ridley Award, an honor given to a film that best embodies the spirit of Nashville, named after the late, great Nashville Scene editor and film critic.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler won the organization’s Trailblazer Award, which the organization says is given to the person that made the biggest impact in the film industry in 2018.
