Great news, theater fans and history buffs: You can ring in the New Year with America’s most beloved rapping Founding Father, when Hamilton opens its highly anticipated run at Tennessee Performing Arts Center on Dec. 31, 2019. The musical will play in Nashville through Jan. 19.
Buzz around the Broadway smash hit’s Nashville debut began building last April, when TPAC teased that it would be a part of the 2019-2020 season. TPAC has yet to release any ticketing information for the show — although a tweet from TPAC indicates that Hamilton’s so-called Philip Cast will be the one coming to Nashville. The rest of TPAC’s Jseason will be announced on April 16.
With a book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton is based on the biography Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. The Broadway musical debuted in 2015 to critical acclaim and unprecedented commercial success. The show was nominated for 16 Tony Awards and won 11, including Best Musical. Chicago and London productions followed in 2016 and 2017 respectively, and the first national tour began in 2017. The third U.S. tour was launched this year with a three-week engagement in Puerto Rico, with Miranda in the titular role.
