Brentwood Home Page news reports
Brentwood Home Page’s weekday feature "Notes from Brentwood’s Blackboards," a peek into what’s happening in our local public schools.

Crockett: Valentine Parties will be held today. Kindergarteners will celebrate at 9:00am while the other grades will have their festivities at 2:00pm. Please remember that Crockett is a latex-free school.  First graders have been working on their timed addition tests, the long vowel-consonant-silent e sound, long vowel words, and the weather. Reading daily with your student at home helps them greatly.

Edmondson: Mark your calendars for the PTO Mardi Gras Carnival!  It will be Friday, Feb. 26th.  Look for more information coming home soon!

Kenrose: The second graders in Terri Kannon’s class are enjoying working with literature circles.  They are reading two great winter favorites:  The Great Sled Race and Stone Fox.  Students are learning about the Iditarod Sled Race that takes place every year in Alaska and are anxious to hear about the outcome in this year’s race.

Lipscomb: Gold Medal students are Jessica Cortez, Matthew Donahue, Ashton Davis, Lila Horesh, Eden Lytle, Michael Shounada, Reed Smith, Ryan Sneed and Danielle Winchel.

Scales: Valentine parties will be from 2:20-3:30 in the classroom.  Debbie Heiman’s fifth grade math classes are working on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.  Students are using the prime factorization to figure out the LCM of numbers.  Gotcha Awards were given to Trey Tobias, Holden Huff, Brett Hart, and Will Wallis for using good character by including others in recess play.

Sunset: Every Friday in Ms. Kathy Butler’s fifth grade classroom students are conducting experiments based on the lessons learned during the week. The class finds this a great, new and inventive way to reinforce their knowledge and review for tests. Over the last three weeks, stations have been set up around the room with students rotating in groups, exploring, discussing and documenting their findings. One student commented on the science based Jeopardy game in one station, while another expressed their delight in the penny drop station. “We really mix things up on Fridays”, they shared. “We really have a lot of fun”.

Brentwood Middle: Students in Mrs. Maggie Tucker’s Related 8 Art class are using their math and writing skills as they learn how to create a rough draft optical illusion using simple geometric shapes.  They are in the process of scaling the drawing up and painting.

Sunset Middle: Night in Paris, the 7th & 8th grade semi-formal dance, is to be held tonight from 5:30-7:30 pm in the gym. Make sure to bring your tickets. Concessions will be sold.  Our 6th grade Girls and Boys Basketball teams play away at Grassland today.  FCA meets this morning in the chorus room.

Woodland Middle: Mrs. Butler’s Reading classes are working on travelogues using the PhotoStory program. Each student will import pictures from a favorite vacation spot, narrate each picture, incorporate music into the background, and then share their travelogues with one another. Students can use their newly acquired gmail accounts to receive pictures and other information from home in order to complete the assignment.
