Kathy Chapman Smith, age 60, passed away from a stroke at her home on Tom Kat Creek surrounded by her family and friends.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Tommy Smith; children, Christie Griffitt Scott, Melissa Griffitt, Cody Gidcomb and David Smith; grandchildren, Douglas Kelley, Christi Pewitt, Hunter Reynolds, Savannah Webb, Braden, Nick, Trent and Jackson Gidcomb; three great grandchildren and two more due in August; sisters, Patricia Gick and Deborah Varner. Preceded in death by her parents, Houston and Christine Chapman; brothers, Ronnie Chapman and Terry Chapman; and best friend, Diane.
Kathy would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received an opportunity to travel, a trip you can’t refuse, a vacation from which she will not be returning. The amenities come with streets of gold, angels singing, talks with her best friend Diane and long walks in the garden with Jesus, and a reunion with all her loved ones that have been waiting patiently for her arrival.
Her travels take her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening and watching Hallmark movies to her heart’s content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce or have to check your sugar. She left detailed instructions for her husband, children, and grandchildren to celebrate her presence here, and remember the lessons she taught. Moma Kat promised to always be listening and watching.
Moma Kat asks that you “please remember to be kind to each other and continue her no-BS method of loving each other. Low adherence to these instructions should not be tolerated.” Kathy will be working in the garden waiting to see us again. “Until then y’all try to behave yourselves.”
Memorial donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to Godwin Chapel Cemetery, 1542 Santa Fe Pike, Columbia, TN 38401.
