A group of Franklin churches will mark Good Friday this afternoon with a procession around downtown Franklin.
Organized by members of St. Philip Catholic Church and beginning there, the march will proceed beginning at 4:30 p.m. along the sidewalk from the corner of 2nd Avenue South and Main Street to the corner of 2nd Avenue S and Church Street, where Village Realty’s office is in the historic Green House.
According to a letter from Fr. Marneni Bala Showraiah, pastor of St. Philip, the procession will then turn right on Church Street and proceed to the corner of Church Street and Fifth Avenue, where the group will again turn right and proceed to Main Street. From there, the procession will return to St. Philip.
“The purpose is to prayerfully remember the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us,” the pastor said in his letter.
According to Kristy Williams of the Heritage Foundation/Downtown Franklin Association, there will be a police escort to assure the safe crossing of streets, but the streets will not be closed.
