Ravenwood kicker Luke Akers signals commitment to UCLA

Ravenwood’s special teams ace Luke Akers will be following in the family tradition of playing football at the next level.

The kicker shared his intent to attend UCLA and join the Bruins.

“This year, God has truly blessed me with many wonderful opportunities,” Akers shared in his announcement on Twitter. “One of those happened [Wednesday] with my commitment to UCLA to further my academics and to play football.”

He also thanked his Ravenwood coach Matt Daniels, special teams coaching legend Alan Lowry (formerly with the Titans), his parents and future UCLA coaches for his accomplishment.

Akers is the son of former NFL kicker David Akers, who attended Louisville before starting his pro career in 1997.

His long tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-2010) earned him six Pro Bowl selections. He stopped playing after the 2013 season and officially retired in 2017.

“Dad, you have always pushed me to improve and and become the best I can be on and off the field,” the younger Akers said of his father.

Luke Akers will return to Ravenwood for a final season this fall.
