, a local nonprofit organization that offers affordable counseling services on a sliding scale based on income, will hold its third annual “Live Intentionally” Speaker Series spotlighting the connection of ACE score (Adverse Childhood Experiences) on physical health in adulthood and how we can help our bodies heal through connection, to others and ourselves.
This event will be free for the community with speaker Dr. Thomas Cabell, MD, cardiologist with the Centennial Heart group at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center from 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019. Mini sessions following Dr. Cabell on intentional ways and ideas for supporting our body and mind through relationships, nutrition, movement, and meditation.
The event is titled “Healing through Connection: Overcoming Trauma, Toxic Stress, and Disease” and will take place at Brentwood Baptist Church Hudson Hall, located at 7777 Concord Road in Brentwood. Light refreshments provided. Doors open at 8:30 am. Advance registration required. The event is free to attend, donations to The Refuge Center programs and services are encouraged.
“We are pleased to partner with our friend Dr. Thomas Cabell, who several years ago experienced a personal crisis leading him on a new journey and a desire to understand how things worked in the realm of emotions and emotional pain, and the body,” says Amy Alexander, founder and executive director of The Refuge Center. “We are addressing things like childhood trauma, functional medicine, mindfulness, and healthy relationships to help people who may be struggling with isolation, addiction, and trauma symptoms in general. We are very proud to offer this event free to the community.”
The mini session portion will focus on intentional ways and ideas for supporting the body and mind through relationships, nutrition, movement, and meditation with Kate Moyer, Yoga Therapist and Mindfulness Coach, Dr. Sommer White, MD, Integrative and Functional Medicine Physician, and Tina Taylor Goode, LPC-MHSP (temp), therapist at The Refuge Center for Counseling.
