ROUNDUP: Shred Fest, Urban Safari among activities at Brentwood Library this week

Whether you’re a fan of bluegrass music, a busy parent in need of free shredding and a place to bring your kids, or interested in learning Tai Chi, the Brentwood Library has it all. Take a look between the stacks at this week’s John P. Holt Brentwood Library roundup.

Featured event: Shred Fest Saturday

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — The John P. Holt Brentwood Library and the city of Brentwood present a Free Shred Day at the library. Bring your papers to shred between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the library parking lot. No registration is needed. Drive-thru shredding in the parking lot will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until the shred truck reaches capacity.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.

*NOTE: This event is weather dependent. In case there are any changes, those who do register will be contacted by email with updates. Registering for this event does not save each registrant a space at the event.

Monday

Core Flex and Resistance

10 a.m. — This specialty class allows individuals to train for improvements in everyday real-life activities. Through the use of hand weights, bands, and medicine balls, real-life functional movement patterns — such as twisting, bending, pushing, pulling, lunging and squatting — are executed in a fun and creative way.

The class fee is $5, and registration is required.

Tuesday

Urban Safari

1 p.m. — Safari Greg is back with his own unique brand of entertainment featuring awesome animals, amazing magic and side-splitting comedy. All ages are welcome.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Space Craft – Tuesday

2 p.m. — We’re making Galaxy Tie Dye shirts! All materials will be provided. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on.

Library staff recommends this activity for teens aged 12-18.

This is a free program, and registration is required.

Wednesday

Preschool Storytime

10 a.m. — At 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., enjoy a fun Story Time for Preschool aged children.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Thursday

Band of Kelleys

1 p.m. — Come hear this award-winning group of siblings as they share their passion of progressive bluegrass. Library staff recommends this activity for ages 5 and up.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Teen Anime Club

4 p.m. — This club features anime, snacks and a fun monthly activity.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Friday

Galactic Goodies

Weekly: Bring your children to enter their names in a weekly drawing for a goodie bag filled with fun. Winners will be drawn on Friday and notified by phone or email.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Tai Chi

3 p.m. — Tai Chi uses smooth, continuous, low impact movements to help unwind while improving balance, posture, and strength. Tai Chi aides in emotional relaxation, cultures mental relaxation, and fosters energetic relaxation.

The class fee is $5, and registration is required.

Saturday

Saturday Story Time

10:30 a.m. — Join library staff for songs, a story, and a simple craft.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.
