ROUNDUP: Space-themed programs will ask participants ‘Are we alone in the universe?’

Is there more to our universe than stars and planets? Are we alone? The library has several space-themed programs this week that tackle questions like those and many more. Take a look between the stacks another week full of programs at the John P. Holt Brentwood Library.

Featured Program of the Week — Wednesday

Are We Alone in the Universe?
1:00 p.m. — It’s the ultimate question that’s been asked since humans had imaginations. Are we alone in the universe? Come hear for yourself facts for and against the idea that we may have neighbors in space.
This is a free program, and registration is required.

Monday

Core Flex and Resistance
10:00 a.m. — This specialty class allows individuals to train for improvements in everyday, real-life activities.
Cost is $5 per class, and registration is required.

Tuesday

Hampstead Stage Company
1:00 p.m. — Travel the night sky as you explore constellations and their legends in “Stories in the Stars,” a compilation of the Greek Myths. The audience will soar through the night sky as they learn the folklore associated with the winds, the seasons, and the sun and moon. Library staff recommends this program for ages 5 and up.
This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Medicare Made Simple
6:00 p.m. — Join library staff for a presentation designed for those turning 65 and older who need to decide on Medicare and would like to be more educated during this overwhelming time. This program will also be Thursday at 1 p.m.
This is a free program, and registration is required.

Wednesday

Space Academy Story Time
10:00 a.m. — A story and activity program for children in grades K-2. Let’s explore the universe around us through stories, music, and other activities.
This is a free program, and registration is required.

Thursday

Bruce Amato – Magician
1:00 p.m. — Join library staff for a show consisting of magic, comedy and audience participation with a focus on the importance of reading. Bruce will dazzle us with his marvelous magic and comical antics and he never fails to delight his audience. Library staff recommends this activity for ages 6 and up.
This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Friday

Feldenkrais: Movement for Comfort and Ease
10:30 a.m. — Come for a session to learn about movements that bring comfort.
The class fee is $10, and registration is required.

Saturday

Saturday Story Time
10:30 a.m. — Join library staff for songs, story and a simple craft.
This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Sunday

Author Talk – Jet Pioneer: A Fighter Pilot’s Memoir
2:00 p.m. — Come hear the remarkable story of Major General Carl G. Schneider’s thirty-two-year U.S. Air Force career. The memoir takes the reader along as the author recounts riveting combat missions, humorous accounts of his Air Force career as well as the “gut-wrenching moments” of learning close friends were shot down by the enemy and killed or captured.
This is a free program, and registration is required.

Teen Game Club
2:00 p.m. — Do you love board games? Are you a Dungeons and Dragons fanatic? Join library staff for our new club, where we play different board games, card games, and RPGs on Sundays. Everyone ages 12-18 welcome!
This is a free program, and no registration is required.
