ROUNDUP: Week of library programs features creative classes, Parnassus Bookmobile, more

After Memorial Day weekend comes to an end, the John P. Holt Brentwood Library will be back with another full week of programs for the community. This week, find classes to knit a hat, activities designed to help kids explore fine motor skills and more.

The library, along with city buildings, is closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

Featured Program of the Week — Tuesday

Kids Make

4:30 p.m. — Kids’ Make is a chance for kids to explore new tools, fine motor skills, creative problem solving, and self-directed play. With art supplies, recyclables, and imagination, the possibilities are endless.

Library staff recommends this activity for ages 7-12.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.  

Monday

LIBRARY CLOSED FOR MEMORIAL DAY

Tuesday

Hat Class: Knitting in the Round

1:00 p.m. — Knitting in the Round is an alternative to using two straight needles and having to sew a seam. We will use a circular needle to knit in the round and use two circular needles to decrease and finish the top of the hat. Students need to know how to cast on and knit.

There will be homework. Details will be sent to students in time to complete before class.

Supplies needed:

Needles: Two circular needles, size US 13 (9 mm). The main circular needle should have a 16-inch cable. The second circular needle can have a 16 inch or 24-inch cable.

Yarn: Bulky yarn size 5 or 6.

This is a free program, and registration is required.  

Wednesday

Preschool Storytime

10:00 a.m. — At 10 and 11 a.m., enjoy a Story Time for preschool-aged children.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.   

Thursday

Parnassus Bookmobile

10:00 a.m. — The Parnassus Bookmobile will be in our parking lot from 10 a.m. — 1 p.m.  

This is a free program, and no registration is required.  

Friday

Games Club!

4:30 p.m. — Love board games? Join library staff for Games Club! Games will be provided including classics and new games.

Library staff recommends this activity for ages 6-12.

This is a free program, and registration is required.  

Saturday

Saturday Story Time

10:30 a.m. — Join library staff for songs, story, and a simple craft.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.
