ROUNDUP: Week of library programs will focus on fitness

Need some motivation to get healthy again? The John P. Holt Brentwood Library is offering a week’s worth of programs that focus on fitness, health and restorative exercise to get you on the path to a healthier life. Here’s a look between the stacks at this week’s library programs.

Featured Program of the Week — Friday

Restorative Breathing and Stress Reduction

2 p.m. — Restorative Breathing and Stress Reduction is an intermediate class which helps individuals decompress from stress and anxiety through deep breathing, madras, stretching and yoga poses. The moves are accompanied with soft, soothing instrumental music. Brenda Russell offers adaptations to poses offering seated or standing movements.

Cost is $5, and registration is required.

Monday

Revive Restorative Yoga

11 a.m. — This class uses reliable, trusted techniques (linking gentle movements and focused concentration on breath) into a flow of exercises to promote “internal cleansing” and well-being in all areas of your life. Whether you’re new to yoga, have a preexisting condition, or simply looking to go deeper with your practice this is an excellent class to take you on your path to a healthier life.

Cost is $5, and registration is required.

Tuesday

Kids Make

4:30 p.m. — Kids’ Make is a chance for kids to explore new tools, fine motor skills, creative problem solving, and self-directed play. With art supplies, recyclables, and imagination, the possibilities are endless.

Library staff recommend this activity for ages 7-12.

This is a free program, and registration is required.

Wednesday

FXP Hula Hoop Fitness

10 a.m. — FXP Fitness classes offer a unique blend of Pilates, barre, and yoga-involved moves… all with a hula hoop! The flow of sequences ignites your metabolism, tones, sculpts, and stretches the body.

Cost is $5, and registration is required.

Thursday

Teen Anime Club

4 p.m. — Anime and snacks will be provided, as well as fun monthly activities.

This is a free program, and registration is required.

Friday

Boomer Sculpt and Sweat

1 p.m. — “Boomer’s Sculpt and Sweat” class is a 40 and older cardio workout. Come ready to have a great workout with fun choreography that benefits balance, cardio, core work, upper body, lower body strengthening and posture. You will notice a better sense of wellness & vitality. We will use resistance training and weight bearing exercise with bands and weights.

Cost is $5, and registration is required.

Saturday

Story Time

10:30 a.m. — Join us for songs, story and a simple craft.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.

Sunday

Teen Game Club

2 p.m.  — Do you love board games? Are you a Dungeons and Dragons fanatic? Join us for our new club, where we play different board games, card games, and RPGs on Sundays. Everyone ages 12-18 welcome.

This is a free program, and no registration is required.
