Sheriff, police chiefs will present Church Security Summit on April 5

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and Community Outreach Ministries are sponsoring a Summit on Church Security featuring Sheriff Jeff Long and the police chiefs of Brentwood, Franklin, Nolensville and Spring Hill.

The event is 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, at Church of the City, 828 Murfreesboro Road, Franklin. The summit is open to the public and there is no registration required.

In addition to law enforcement officers, including a SWAT commander, and strategies from a security company on security planning, the summit will feature vendors of church security products.

The summit follows several high-profile church shootings including one nearby. A shooting on Sept. 24, 2017 at Burnette Chapel Church of Christ in Antioch, Tennessee, killed one and injured 7.

Just over a month later, a 26-year-old gunman killed 26 people and injured 20 others when he entered First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

According to a flyer advertising the summit, “We will provide critical information to help churches respond to the security concerns that exist in our culture today.”
