SOCCER: Brentwood, Ravenwood to meet in region finals, GCA advances

Below are region soccer updates from the county’s Tuesday night of play.

Brentwood continues march with win against Dickson Co.

The Brentwood Bruins seem unstoppable in this postseason run.

They continued their winning ways in the Region 6-AAA semifinals at home Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory against Dickson Co.

Naseem AbuSalim popped in two goals for the night, and Kieran Elliott scored a third late to keep the Bruins’ distance.

The team will face a familiar foe in Ravenwood in the region finals at home Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

The win guarantees Brentwood will get a sectionals game.

The Bruins won against the Raptors 2-0 Friday night to take the district.

Ravenwood survives overtime with Overton to make region finals

The Ravenwood Raptors embraced their underdog status headed into Tuesday night’s region semifinals against Overton, and it worked.

A goal from Travis Born in the 108′ mark of the fourth overtime broke the 1-1 tie and gave Ravenwood the victory.

Dominic Miller tallied the first goal for the Raptors early (36′).

“[I’m] really proud of the boys…they stayed with the game plan, worked incredibly hard and didn’t give up,” he said via the team’s Twitter of the win. “It’s a testament to the effort they display in practice & how hard they push each other.”

They’ll head into another Battle of the Woods for the region crown Thursday night at Brentwood’s place.

They’ll either get a home or away sectionals game after this match.

Grace Christian Academy routs Harpeth en route to region finals

A barrage of goals from the GCA Lions Tuesday night sealed their spot in the Region 5-A finals with a 10-1 win against Harpeth in the semis.

Malachi Jones opened it up at the 30′ mark of the first half with a goal, and a flurry within 11 minutes of game play cracked open after that to mount an impassable lead. The 7-1 GCA advantage at halftime wouldn’t fade.

Jones had two tallies in that span, as did district Player of the Year Shewit Worton.

The team moves on to face LEAD Academy at Trevecca Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.

They’re guaranteed a home Saturday sectionals game with a win there, and an away one with a loss.
