Below are updates from the first day of the Spring Fling sports tournament for county teams.
Grace Christian Academy baseball makes it to second round of Class A tourney
The GCA baseball team kept its bats swinging in the first round of the Class A state tourney.
The Lions got a 8-4 win against Loretto Tuesday, advancing to Wednesday’s second round against Trinity Christian at MTCS’s field.
They’ll play again Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. if they fall, but will advance to Thursday’s 2:00 p.m. contest if they win.
Fairview soccer powers past Loudon to get to state semis
The Fairview soccer team kept its season alive Tuesday with a 3-1 victory against Loudon in the Class A state tournament.
Brandon Parrish, Jose Perez and Matthew Stevens all had goals for the Yellow Jackets.
They’ll face Greeneville at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Siegel Soccer Complex (Field #1).
Christ Presbyterian Academy baseball drops contest to CAK
The CPA Lions got close to advancing in the D-II A baseball state tournament, but fell a run short.
The team lost 4-3 Tuesday to CAK, sending them to an elimination contest against Clarksville Academy at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at LaVergne.
Brentwood Academy softball falls to Baylor
An early run spree from perennial contender Baylor sunk Brentwood Academy Tuesday in the first round of the D-II softball state tournament.
The team clamped down its defense late, but couldn’t get its own runners back home. A late resurgence allowed Baylor to claim the 10-run rule in the bottom of the sixth.
Head coach Greg Brown said he still feels that his Lady Eagles have a great chance to rebound.
“They’ve been working for it all year; they’re ready,” he said of the quick turnaround. “We worked to get here, and they knew that they were coming to play hopefully more than two games.”
They’ll face St. Benedict at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday for the elimination game.
Brentwood tennis teams advance to state finals
The rackets swung in Brentwood’s favor Tuesday as both teams advanced to the D-I Large Class state finals.
The girls won against Murfreesboro Central 4-0 and will play Collierville at Adams Tennis Complex for the state title Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
The boys won against Science Hill 4-0 and will play Murfreesboro Central at Adams Tennis Complex for the state title Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
