Suspect arrested in connection with Brentwood police officer injury

After an incident Wednesday night which left one Brentwood police officer injured, police say they have made an arrest.

William Moquann Smith, 18, was arrested at his home in Nashville Thursday, Feb. 7. Smith has been charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest by motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and theft of property of more than $10,000.

Smith is being held at the Williamson County Jail on a $70,000 bond.

Police say the injured officer, Brien Fletcher, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he underwent surgery Thursday afternoon and is expected to make a full recovery.

According to police, officers were called to Fountainhead Drive at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6 after a resident spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area. While the officers conducted a search, they came upon a black Honda CRV which immediately began to flee at a high rate of speed.

In an attempt to stop the fleeing vehicle, officers set up tire deflation devices at the intersection of Fountain Drive and Franklin Road. The suspect vehicle struck a parked, unoccupied Brentwood Police vehicle in an attempt to avoid the devices and evade officers. In turn, the Brentwood Police vehicle struck Fletcher, who was on foot nearby.

Dash cam footage of the incident was released by the Brentwood Police Department Thursday afternoon and shows the suspect vehicle fleeing eastbound on Fountainhead Drive

Police said the vehicle was stolen from Nolensville.

According to a release by the Brentwood Police Department early Friday morning, the stolen vehicle was occupied by at least two unknown black male suspects.
