Two Brentwood soccer players headed to U.S. Soccer Development Academy

Two Brentwood High rising sophomores and soccer players will head from the pitch in Williamson County to play with some of the best athletes in the country.

Jonathan Preston and Ricky Ybarra will be joining the Shattuck-St. Mary’s United States Soccer Development Academy in Faribault, Minnesota.

“I saw the two boys play for Region III. I was impressed with their ability and I believed they both could play in the US Soccer Academy program,” said Shattuck Assistant DA Coach Bob Moullin via press release. “They have good qualities that will help them prosper, both on the field and in the classroom. We are excited to have them in our school and soccer program.”

Preston is a midfielder for the Bruins varsity team, and Ybarra plays on defense. They are already part of the state’s Olympic Development Team.

The release describes the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s program as one that “provides a consistent training environment, competitive games, requires a 10 month season commitment to play only for the DA,  professional coaching from US Soccer and identification opportunities (US Soccer scouts attend over 50% of DA games).”

The boys’ U16/U17 has 82 teams across the country, including Shattuck-St. Mary. All programs are overseen by the U.S. Soccer Federation.

The Bruins’ varsity soccer team will return to action next spring.
