Upcoming The Arc Williamson fundraising luncheon to feature 3 Midstate authors

STAFF REPORTS

Three Middle Tennessee authors will be the guest speakers at the 15th annual Author!Author! luncheon hosted by The Arc Williamson County Thursday, June 13, at Old Natchez Country Club in the Grassland community north of Franklin.

The luncheon, which begins at 11 a.m., will celebrate not only literacy and the written word but the work that the Adult Learning Center has done since 1986 in Williamson County. Staff at the ALC, which closed in March, worked tirelessly to provide free programs to help adults develop reading, writing and conversation skills, according to a press release.

Featured authors are Annette Valentine of Brentwood, Bill Carey of Nashville and Rea Frey of Nashville. Valentine’s novel, Eastbound from Flagstaff, will be published in September; Carey, a former reporter in Nashville who co-founded Tennessee History for Kids, is the author of Runaways, Coffles and Fancy Girls, among others; and Frey is the author of the acclaimed thriller Not Her Daughter.

Going forward, The Arc Williamson County, whose mission is to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to actively participate in the community throughout their lifetime, will continue with this annual event in the spirit of work of the Adult Learning Center.  Over the years, The Arc and the Adult Learning Center have collaborated on numerous projects including sponsoring a literacy class for young adults with disabilities who wished to pursue their dream of receiving a high school diploma and developing Next Chapter Book Clubs in Middle Tennessee.

Tickets are $50 and available at authorauthoreventtn.org. For more information, contact Sharon Bottorff at 615-790-5815, ext. 3 or sbbarc@thearcwc.org,
