The John P. Holt Brentwood Library has a variety of programs for the week of Oct. 7 through Oct. 13 including programs focused on exercise, arts and crafts and retirement planning. Check out the details below:
AARP Drivers Course will take place on Monday at 9:15 a.m. where participants will learn about good driving habits to earn a special discount on their insurance. A valid Tennessee license is required and an AARP card is suggested. This is a two-day class and participants must attend both days. The second class is Tuesday at 9:15 a.m.
The class has a fee of $15 for AARP Members and $20 for non-AARP Members with registration available online.
Origami Folders will take place on Monday at 4:30 p.m. Origami Folders is for kids ages 7-12 who are interested in learning more about origami and paper folding techniques. Each child will leave with a creation and the instructions and know-how to recreate it at home. This is a free program with registration available online.
Pilates Mat Class will take place at 9 a.m. on Tuesday where participants will go through a series of traditional Pilates exercises that will improve core strength, increase flexibility, create better postural alignment, develop balance and give a wider range of motion. The class has a $5 fee with registration available online.
Retirement University is a free program at noon on Wednesday where participants will take part in a seminar entitled Planning for Healthcare in Retirement: How to integrate potential costs into your financial planning. Registration is available online.
Intro to Word will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday. Participants will learn to create and save a document, editing and formatting techniques, copy and paste, and previewing documents in Microsoft Word. Participants must be proficient with the mouse and have a good understanding of basic computer skills. The program is free with registration available online.
LEGO Mania! will take place on Friday at 4:30 p.m. where participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity in a fun filled afternoon of building their own designs. The free event is open to children aged 5-12 and registration is available online. Any children 5 or under must have adult/parent supervision. The library will provide the LEGOs.
Cross Stitch & Talk will take place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. where participants will gather together to stitch and talk about this awesome hobby! A raffle will be held at 1 p.m. This is a free program with registration is available online.
The featured program of the week is the free Craft Swap at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Bring any craft supplies that you would like to donate to the swap. Scrapbooking, yarn, thread, fabric, buttons, paper making, stenciling, ribbon, silk flowers, jewelry making – bring us all those bags, boxes, and bins of crafty things for a fun Craft Swap.
· Small items should be bundled into clear bags.
· Grouped items by size, style, theme or color.
· Items should also have an accompanying description when the original packaging is absent.
· All items should be clean and only gently used.
Participants may drop off your items beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. The swap will begin promptly at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Art of the Doodle will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
We have all doodled at one time or another in our lives, so everyone can create works of art with this method of drawing. Come, find joy and relaxation while creating beautiful works of art using simple patterns and layered tangles.
The class will have a $35 fee and all supplies will be furnished with registration available online.
