BHP reader Jan DePhillips emailed Friday about a report of an attempted kidnapping in the Willowmet subdivision she had received via email. We contacted the Brentwood Police Department to see what was up.

Capt. Tommy Walsh, the department’s spokesman, shared the following:

“We had a call (Thursday) afternoon at about 5:40 pm in the Willowmet subdivision. The complainant reported that at approximately 4:45 pm his 14-year-old son had seen a suspicious person near the playground at the subdivision entrance. The 14-year-old told his parent that he thought the suspect was suspicious and that he told the suspect that he would call police if he came close to him. The suspect never approached the child or said anything to him. After the child made the statement the suspect allegedly got into a white van and left the area.

“Our officers spoke with the child and parent and canvassed the area, but since there was a delay in calling, nothing was found.

“While we always want parents and children to be careful of strangers and notify us if anything unusual occurs, we have no reason at this time to classify this as any kind of crime.

“A description of the suspect and vehicle is included below. We would ask that anyone who sees a person matching the description call us at 371-0160. Our officers will conduct additional patrols in that general area this afternoon and for the next few days.”

The suspect is listed as a white male with a beard, driving a white van of unknown make or model. The man was described as average in height and weight, age unknown.
