WHAT’S UP WITH THAT: Brentwood Market’s for sale

Brentwood Home Page staff reports

When the ‘Hatcher Farm milk” lettering was replaced with “Business for Sale” over the weekend, people asked, “What’s Up with That?”

When the words that advertised organic Hatcher Farm milk and other specials at the Brentwood Market and Deli on Franklin Road switched “Business for Sale” over the weekend, people noticed. And more than a few asked us, “What’s Up with That?”

So on Monday we went to the source to find out.

Although the business is for sale, owner Brian Jenkins said he expects the next owner will keep the popular lunchtime spot. He was short on details, though.

“I’ve got another business and I decided to sell this one,” Jenkins said.

The Brentwood staple — one of only two commercial enterprises located in the center of town — has long been a favorite lunch stop for locals and local workers alike. In 2011, under different ownership, the market added Broasters Chicken, which has been a popular lunch item.

Jenkins said he just put the store up for sale and is not even sure what his asking price would be.

If we learn more, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, we’ll have a cheeseburger all the way and a soda to go with.
