Driving along Concord Road outside the entrance of Governors Club, BHP noticed some construction on the easement. We were curious if it had anything to do with the road’s expansion plans, so we decided to find out what’s up with that?
Brentwood public work officials pointed BHP in the direction of Piedmont Natural Gas, the company in charge of construction.
“We’re working on about 3,600 feet of natural gas pipe. We’re doing our best to keep our cars parked off to the side to avoid backing up traffic,” David Trusty of Piedmont Natural Gas said.
According to Trusty, the work is a prelude to the bigger projects for the expansion of Concord Road.ÂÂ
“All these projects link to the larger project to widen the road, which will be a fairly long process. However, the work we are doing there now will only last another month or so,” Trusty said.
The widening of Concord Road from Sunset Road to U.S. 31A/41A is a $13.5 million project that will result in two 12-foot lanes, a turn lane and a multi-purpose walking path among other small improvements. The project is estimated to be complete in the summer of 2016.
